Numbers and Letters is an immersive virtual reality game for developing numeracy and literacy skills. The game is suitable for all ages. The Numbers game focuses on developing flexible mathematical thinking skills through the use of four basic mathematical operators and adaptive strategies. Players can explore the role of numerical relations and operators in mathematical problem solving. This is achieved in the game through the exploration of number combinations with a range of operators (subtraction, addition, multiplication and division). The game aims to develop mathematical proficiency through exploration of different problem-solving strategies based on the understanding of key concepts. The game has progressive difficulty modes depending on player ability.
The Letters game helps the player improve their literacy skills and become better at spelling by completing words by finding the missing letter.
Numbers and Letters was designed for engagement and retention by including leader boards and in- game achievements. The game mechanics, learning content and game implementation in the Numbers game allows the players to perform fast paced mental calculations. This is facilitated by the selection and combination of numbers to solve equations, comparing various number and operator combinations to reach a target number, where there is always a correct answer available. The game design facilitates searching for solutions and using different strategies for problem solving and can quantify and assess their accuracy and efficiency. The game has progressive difficulty modes facilitated by increasing the number of steps to solve an equation. Hints are available if required to scaffold and guide the player.
The Letters game includes words of various lengths for game variety and difficulty. Each game type has 3 modes - arcade, time trial and survival with 4 difficulty levels.
